Pilgrims on th Ghats, Varanasi.

Varanasi is one of the holiest cities in the Hindu Universe. It is situated on the banks of the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh. Of all the places I have visited in India so far, Varanasi was my favourite. This city is more of a window into the Hindu psyche than anywhere else in India. It is the place where all Hindus would like to be when they die. They wish to be cremated at one of the two "Burning Ghats" on the bank of the river. By doing so they have the ability for Moksha - liberation from the cycle of birth and death. It is also a place where pilgrims from all over India come to wash away their sins in the river.
