PETER BIO Biography
 
For over twelve years Peter Meyer has lived and worked on World Heritage Listed Fraser Island off the coast of Hervey Bay in Queensland Australia. Through his work as an Interpretive Guide and photographer he stirves to create a better understanding of the environment in which humanity lives and depends on.
 

On arrival at Fraser, Peter worked as an Interpretive Ranger for Eco-tourism leaders Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village. His photography career began a few years after that when he taught himself on an old SLR given to him by his Brother-in-law. Up until then he had never taken a photograph in his life! Peter began by going out exploring on his weekends in an old Landrover Series III. From the beginning, Peter and a talent to take the normal everyday object or scene and bring out the magical quality which he felt all things possessed.

Peter has worked as a still's photographer for the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Park Documentaries.He has also photographed for Red Cross Australia on North Queensland's Palm Island. His work has also featured in numerous magazines and newspapers around the world. In Germany, Peter and his work has featured on television shows for ZDF, Reiselust and Spiegel TV.

In late 2006 Peter travelled to India and Nepal for the purpose of experiencing some of this culture. While there he volunteered his photographic services to several charity organisations including the Krishnamurti Foundation in Varanasi and Forget Me Not Orphanage in Kathmandu Nepal. Peter has since published a calendar for the Forget Me Not Orphanage as a fund raising exercise, profits of which go towards the orphanage.

Peter has exhibited several times over the last ten years the last of which being in February 2007 on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. This was a combination of images from India, Nepal and Fraser Island.

Peter graduated from Griffith University in Brisbane with degrees in Ecology and Biochemistry. He is about to build a gallery on Fraser Island from where he will display his images and conduct photographic workshops. His mission is to promote knowledge and understanding about the earth and its natural history through images and ideas that convey a sense of wonder and appreciation about our living planet.

2005:- Prints First edition of Hard Cover book "Fraser Island Australia"

2002-2003: - Queensland Arts Council is currently travelling an Exhibition of Peter's work to around Regional Queensland.

2002: - Winner in Queensland Memento Awards:- Best Graphic Design Theme Australia.

2002: - Worked as still photographer for BBC while on location filming 'Walking with Dinosaurs'

2002: - Spiegel TV films documentary ' Day in the life of Photographer Peter Meyer'

2002: - Exhibition at Cinema Paridiso Gallery, Noosa Queensland.

2001: - Commission by Cairns Hilton to photograph a private collection of images from Northern Queensland.

2001: - Commission by Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village to supply a private collection of images of Fraser Island.

2000: - First Solo exhibition of works in the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Main Hall. Highest visitation on record for Regional Gallery.
